Spring is just around the corner (thankfully!) and it’s time to start getting your home ready for warmer weather! Before you start the dirty work, make sure your home is clear of unnecessary clutter. Get rid of anything your family isn’t using. From out-of-date clothing to last season’s decorative accessories, clearing out the old will make way for a fresh, clean start with the season. Donate , give away or consider saving your items for the future use by using a self -storage unit.
We have some cleaning tips to help you survive this year’s spring cleaning.
Clean shower heads overnight! Pour plain white vinegar into a plastic bag and tie it around the shower head. Let it soak overnight. When you wake up, run cool water through the shower and all the buildup and gunk will drain away. If there still is residue left on, you can remove it by running a toothbrush dipped in vinegar over the shower head.
Remove unwanted odors: clean and vacuum your furniture and carpets; a common solution to removing general pet odors is baking soda. Just sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on carpets and fabrics in your home. Leave it on for 15 minutes (or more), then vacuum it. Change your air filter–this is something that should be done once a month.
Clean rugs and runners with a carpet cleaner to give them new life and to get rid of any gunk that might have built up over the cold winter season.
Wash the windows by cleaning both the inside and outside thoroughly along with the frame of the window. Use a streak free cleaner for best results.
Dust everything! And I do mean everything! Make sure to wipe down every surface in your home and pay special attention to the tops of your ceiling fan, curtain rods, and bookshelves to get your home squeaky clean! Don’t forget to vacuum after dusting your home to pick up any fallen particles.
Consider self-storage for seasonal belongings, oversized items, or accessories you haven’t yet found a home for, renting a storage unit can be a space-saving and accessible way to store your things. For fragile items like wood, antiques or furniture, climate controlled storage can protect from humidity, temperature and the elements.
